What’s In Season
Take a look at What’s In Season this month at the Markets!
What’s In Season
FRUIT
APPLES & PEARS: All in season, with Red Nashis starting this week.
EXOTIC FRUIT: Plenty of great cold-weather exotics available. Aussie pomegranates are still going strong. Both soft and crunchy persimmons are in season, along with fresh feijoas.
TROPICAL FRUIT: Watermelon is great value, pineapples are tasting excellent, and rockmelons are a little scarce. Figs are starting to slow down.
CITRUS: Winter is peak season for citrus. Aussie navels are at their best, Imperial mandarins are top quality, and easy-peel oranges and ruby grapefruit have just started. Cumquats and finger limes are in season, lemons are great value, and Yuzu lemons — a beautiful Japanese citrus — are also available.
BERRIES: New season QLD strawberries have arrived. Raspberries are well priced, with blueberries and blackberries becoming more abundant.
VEGETABLES
TOMATOES: Cold weather in growing regions continues to impact supply and pricing - we’re hopeful prices will ease soon.
ASPARAGUS: Imported only at the moment.
BEANS & PEAS: Round beans are good quality but in short supply. Brussels are also good quality but not overly abundant.
CORN: Currently scarce.
AVOCADO: Shepherds are in season. Hass avocados are offering better value this week.
RECOMMENDED / GOOD VALUE: Zucchini, leeks, organic local pumpkin (sweet and full of flavour), Aussie garlic, and bunched greens like spinach and Tuscan kale are all great picks right now.
TRUFFLES: Local truffles are in season - a winter highlight!
FLOWERS: In-season blooms include poppies, jonquils, hyacinths, proteas, and wax flowers. Loving the vibrant colours brightening up the depths of winter.
