What’s In Season

Take a look at What’s In Season this month at the Markets!

What’s In Season

FRUIT

APPLES & PEARS
New season fruit is now coming through, locally sourced, direct from the grower. Royal Galas and Kanzi apples are available.

MANGOES
Coming to the end of the mango season. Quality is a little patchy, and prices are higher, but still worth it for a final hit before spring.

TROPICAL
Watermelons are a great value and are good for eating. Sapo melons are available, along with Mini Lees, which continue to be very popular.

GRAPES
Still eating well, with a good range of varieties available.

CITRUS
The first of the Australian mandarins has arrived. Limes remain a great value and very juicy. Still waiting on Aussie navels. Ruby and regular grapefruit are available, along with good-quality lemons.

BERRIES
The southern berry season is wrapping up, with a transition now underway as we wait for the northern supply. Blackberries and raspberries are still good value and taste good, while strawberries and blueberries are becoming harder to find.

STONEFRUIT
Plums are still holding up well.

EXOTIC
Persimmons (both soft and hard) are available, along with custard apples and pomegranates. Figs are particularly good at the moment.

VEGETABLES

TOMATOES
All varieties are eating well. Heirlooms are a standout at the moment and our top pick.

ASPARAGUS
Currently imported only, as the Australian season has finished.

AVOCADO
Both Hass and Shepherd varieties are available. Shepherds are a favourite — they cut beautifully and hold well. Do not be put off if they feel slightly soft; they are often perfect inside.

RECOMMEND / GOOD VALUE
Corn, zucchini, lettuce, herbs and cucumber are all great value right now.

FLOWERS
Plenty of vibrant colour available, with tulips and Easter daisies in store, alongside natives including banksias and proteas.
