Lifeline Canberra is proud to have opened up Book Lovers Lane within the Niche Markets at Fyshwick Markets.
This will be a permanent store filled with books, DVDs, CDs, puzzles, comics and more. The bookshelves and tables are filled with our usual Bookfair stock, which will be restocked daily – so please keep popping by to see what’s new!
This is not replacing our famous Bookfairs but rather a new venture to ensure we continue to support the community.
Just like our Bookfairs, all funds raised will go directly to our local Crisis Support Service 13 11 14.
It costs $26 to answer a life-saving call in our telephone crisis support centre. At Book Lovers Lane, this equates to around a handful of books, so every purchase is valuable.
As a small organisation, we rely heavily on the support of our warehouse volunteers, who have so generously given their time, support and expertise in getting Book Lovers Lane ready. There is so much that goes on behind the scenes, and we are very thankful for each and every one of them.
We look forward to sharing this new venture with the Canberra community.
Book donations are open Thursday - Sunday, 9am - 4pm.
Donation checklist:
- Clean, resalable books/items
- Books/items to be packed in boxes no more than 10 kg in weight
- If you don’t have boxes, please place your books/items in cloth bags
- If the books/items are damaged or soiled, we are unable to accept them due to the high cost of recycling them.

Dean Han, head chef and owner of Ma Ma Dumpling and Umami, has fond memories of making and eating dumplings as a child on special days, such as New Year's Day and Harvesting Day.
As a child, Dean and his parents, siblings, aunties, uncles and cousins would all gather at his grandparent's place for a big celebratory meal, with dumplings always on the menu. It was one of his best childhood memories of his family.
Since opening Umami, Dean noticed lots of families visiting and eating at the Markets, and so the idea of sharing a piece of his family with others was born.
Using his renowned culinary experience and family recipes, Dean opened Ma Ma Dumpling, and his dream came true again.
