Black Cherry & Hazelnut Rum Balls

Serves 4 | Complexity: Easy



  • 400g digestive biscuits
  • 40ml rum
  • 1 cup roasted hazelnuts
  • 1/3 cup powdered drinking chocolate
  • 200g milk cooking chocolate, melted (over double boiler)
  • 1/2 cup tinned black cherries and some of the tinned syrup
  • 1 cup chocolate flecks (to coat)
  • 1 cup moist coconut flakes (to coat)
  • 200g dark cooking chocolates (to coat)



  1. Add the drinking chocolate and now empty these dry ingredients into a bowl with the melted milk chocolate and rum. Mix together with your hands until mixture is combined. If it feels dry, add a tiny splash of the cherry syrup and combine.
  2. Place a small amount of the mixture into your hands, place a cherry on top, add more of the mixture on top and roll into balls.
  3. Over a double boiler, melt the dark chocolate. Roll each of the rum balls into the melted dark chocolate to coat.
  4. Roll half of the rum balls through the chocolate flecks and the other half through the moist coconut flakes.
  5. Refrigerate for approx. 30 minutes.

PEARS: Corellas, Nashi, Williams and Buerre Bosc in season. Josephines and Packhams should start next week or so. PINES: Topless still eating well. POMEGRANATES: Aussie pomegranates in season. Better value this week. STONE FRUIT: Plums great varieties available still eating and cooking really well. Poach and freeze! VEGETABLES | Still feeling some impacts from the hot weather in January impacting vegetable crops around Australia and prices. Cooler Autumn weather will start to take effect over next few weeks. ASPARAGUS: Cooler weather in Victoria has meant a good Autumn asparagus crop with great value asparagus in season. However, Autumn season for Aussie asparagus is short so buy while available. AVOCADOS: New season shepherds in season. Hass ending soon. BEANS: Sugar snap and snowpeas still scarce. Round beans better value this week. Butter and Borlotti beans available. CAVOLO NERO & KALE: Beaut bunches. GARLIC: Tassie and organic garlic in season. GOOD VALUE: Zucchini, cucumbers and green capsicums. POTATOES & PUMPKIN: Kiflers the pick. TOMATOES: Scarce. FLOWERS: Great value roses.
